FAQs

image media

Can you print my own photograph, picture or artwork onto canvas?

Yes, we can use your own image to create a canvas print. Please contact us via the website, by email or telephone 00 44 1273 725701 with your exact requirements for a quote.

My picture is not in a digital format, what shall I do?

You can post your photograph to us at Dekorart Ltd, 46 Upper North Street, Brighton, BN1 3FH.
As with a digital format the size of canvas that can be printed depends on the size & quality of the original image, please contact us for more information.

Can you scan my artwork?

Yes, we can scan artwork up to A1 but we can photograph artwork over that size to print from.

Can you scan negatives?

Yes, we can scan negatives at an extra cost of between £10 and £30 depending on the size of image required. Please call us for a quote.

Can you scan transparencies?

Yes we can scan transparencies at an extra cost of between £10 and £50, depending on the size required. Please contact us for a quote.

Can I send a file via email?

Yes you can send a file by email, anything up to 5Mb normally, but it is a good idea to send another email without an attachment to make sure at least one email comes though, or phone us when you have sent an email with an attachment to make sure we have received it. You can also post images on a CD to Dekorart Ltd, 46 Upper North Street, Brighton, BN1 3FH. Please enclose a hard copy.

Can I send you my memory card?

Yes, you can send your memory card and we will return it with your canvas.

Can you reproduce artwork such as paintings?

Yes we often reproduce artwork as limited edition prints. We can photograph the original and make any repairs necessary to old paintings before colour matching and printing onto canvas.

What if the resolution of my picture is low?

Low resolution is not always a problem as results vary depending on the image and the size of canvas required. There is no hard and fast rule as canvas can be very forgiving and there are ways we can improve the quality of a low resolution image, or hide any pixilation, so it is always worth sending us your image to assess.

Can I print a picture from my phone?

Yes, sometimes, depending on the quality of the camera in the phone, the image taken and the size and result required. We have produced canvases from phone cameras with very interesting results so why not give it a go. Send us your image and requirements and we’ll assess whether it’s possible.

Do I need to own the image I send?

In submitting an order for customised canvases the customer confirms that they own the intellectual property rights to the respective photograph/artwork or have obtained the relevant written permission. We reserve the right to refuse to print or manufacture any image that may cause offence.

How do I get my photos to Dekorart?

You have various options. Depending on the size of the required canvas, you can either email a digital image to us at info@dekorart.co.uk or you can put your image on a CD and post it to us Dekorart Ltd, 46 Upper North Street, Brighton, BN1 3FH. materials & quality

What materials do Dekorart print on?

We print on premium quality archival canvas. We can also print on photographic paper – please call for a quote.

How do you protect your canvases?

All our canvases are finished with a UV resistant and water resistant matte varnish.

Will my canvas fade?

All our canvases are printed using colourfast U.V resistant inks and are then finished with a UV protective varnish so they do not fade.

What are 'Giclee Prints'?

Unlike other photographic prints, giclee canvas prints are produced using high resolution digital printing technology, so that the image appears continuous, rather than made of lots of small dots. This process gives the canvas print a more striking and life-like appearance. Giclee canvas prints can be commonly found in art galleries and museums.

What does Giclee mean?

Please see Giclee History.

How is the canvas artwork finished?

The canvas is hand stretched over a 3.5cm thick solid wood frame. It is stretched around the sides of the frame and stapled on the reverse. A border is added to the back of the frame, covering the staples and canvas folds. All our canvas artwork is delivered ready to hang.

What frames do you use?

We use lightweight pine wooden frames with a 3.5cm depth, unless otherwise requested.

What sizes can you print to?

We can print any canvas size you want. There are no standard sizes, so you can have a canvas up to 1.35m x 15m!

The size I would like is not listed do you print other sizes?

If you cannot find the size of canvas print you are looking for please email or call us and we will calculate the price for your required size.

I would like my image split into three and printed onto three canvases, is this possible?

Yes, you can split your image however you like and we will print it onto separate canvases accordingly.

What equipment do Dekorart use?

We use a Mutoh Falcon II, 8-colour variable dot colour inkjet printer to meet the demands of photo quality production printing for print widths of up to 64inches. Incorporating Dynamic Variable Dot Imaging, the latest development in piezoelectric drop-on-demand technology, this machine can independently adjust the size of the droplets produced by each of its 1,440 nozzles-on-the-fly. The result is finer detail and smoother gradients in highlight areas and crisp colors in the midtones and shadows. We also use the latest computers and software technology to ensure the finest possible print.

What is the print quality like?

The quality of our prints is extremely high

Are Dekorart canvas prints mass produced?

No, our canvas prints are individually produced to the highest standards and are hand crafted.

Can I have the canvas without it being stretched on a frame?

Yes, if you would like the canvas printed but not stretched it can then be sent to you rolled in a tube. Please see our Artist Service page for prices, or call us on 00 44 1273 725701 for a quote.

Will my canvas be the same image I see on your website?

Images may vary depending on the size of canvas print ordered due to scale and proportion but the actual image will be the same. Please bear in mind that the images seen online only give you an indication of the quality of the finished work. As with all art, the drama and presence of a canvas can really only be appreciated when looking at the actual size hanging in a suitable space.

Will the colours I see on my screen be the same as the finished canvas?

We cannot guarantee this as individual monitor settings can vary. If there is a particular colour match you need please contact us (you can send a colour swatch to us to match your colours if required).

How should I hang my canvas?

All our canvases are 'ready to hang' and you can either simply hang the canvas on 2 screws, using the top of the frame as an anchor, or you may wish to use a picture wire and hooks. If security is an issue (e.g, your art is hung in an entrance or hallway) then you may consider using special locking brackets or fixings. We advise you to seek advice from your local hardware or DIY store if you are in any doubt about the most suitable method for your circumstances. Take care to avoid electrical wires, pipes and other services behind your wall when fixing. We cannot be held responsible for any damage resulting from a poorly secured canvas or an unsuitable choice of hanging location.

How do I look after my canvas print?

Do not expose your canvas print to strong heat (e.g, directly above a hot radiator or heater, or fire) or excessive moisture. Do not use any chemical cleaning agents, fluids or spray's on your canvas. To remove dirt or splashes wipe very gently with a well wrung, soft damp cloth, then allow to dry. To remove dust you can use a low powered vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment, a feather duster, or a light static cleaning cloth.
